The Geospatial Intelligence Foundation of Nigeria (GIFON) has announced plans to convene key national stakeholders in the geospatial and intelligence community for two strategic engagement events aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s geospatial ecosystem and nurturing the next generation of geospatial leaders.
The events will feature the GIFON Young Professionals in Geospatial Intelligence (G-YPG) Meet & Greet and the GIFON Women in Geospatial Intelligence (G-WINGS) Meet & Greet, both designed to promote collaboration, mentorship, and innovation within Nigeria’s rapidly growing geospatial sector.
According to Dr. AA Usman, Founder and Executive Chairman of GIFON, the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to building national capacity in geospatial intelligence and positioning Nigeria as a leading hub for spatial data analytics, satellite applications, and location based decision making. “Across the world, geospatial intelligence has become indispensable for national security, disaster management, environmental monitoring, infrastructure planning, and economic development. Nigeria must build the human capital and institutional collaboration necessary to fully harness the power of geospatial technologies,” he said.
The G-YPG initiative seeks to connect emerging geospatial professionals with experienced practitioners, government institutions, and industry leaders in order to create pathways for mentorship, innovation, and career development. Similarly, the G-WINGS initiative is dedicated to empowering women in geospatial science and intelligence, encouraging leadership, participation, and professional advancement within a field that is critical to national development. The events will bring together representatives from government ministries, security institutions, universities, research organizations, international development partners, and leading geospatial technology companies.
By creating platforms for collaboration and dialogue, GIFON aims to strengthen Nigeria’s geospatial intelligence capabilities in support of national security, disaster resilience, environmental sustainability, and data-driven development planning. The stakeholder engagement events will take place at the GIFON GeoINT Centre and Academy in Asokoro, Abuja, and are expected to attract participants from across Nigeria’s geospatial, academic, and policy communities.
The Geospatial Intelligence Foundation of Nigeria (GIFON) is a national platform dedicated to advancing geospatial intelligence, spatial analytics, and location-based decision making for national development and security.
